A US federal judge temporarily blocked an executive order from President Donald Trump that reduced access to gender transition care for people under the age of 19.
Thursday’s ruling by district judge Brendan Herson comes from lawsuits brought by transgender teenagers and families of watchdog groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
In his decision, Herson calls gender-affirming healthcare “chemical and surgical amputations of children” an executive order “denies that this population exists or deserves to exist.” He said.
The ruling represents the latest blow to Trump’s agenda in court, where the legality of many of his measures has been met with skepticism.
