Honduras has overturned its previous position to not extend the treaty and is seen as a symbol of our intense existence.

Honduras President Xiomara Castro has announced that her government has reached an agreement with the United States to extend the extradition treaty she previously promised to cease.

Castro said Tuesday that the agreement includes “protective measures” against Honduras sovereignty after previously attacking the treaty as an example of stubborn US influence in Latin America.

“I have reached an agreement with the new US administration, so the extradition treaty will continue to provide necessary safeguards for Honduras and ensure objective applications,” Castro said in a social media post.

Otherwise, the treaty was set to expire in 10 days. However, Castro’s decision comes in a call to continue the US agreement. It is used to facilitate the handover of figures such as former President Juan Orlando Hernandez and former police chief Juan Carlos Bonilla.

For example, Hernandez was all of us who came to power as “law and order.” However, in April 2022 he was extradited to the US and was convicted last year of using his influence to protect powerful drug traffickers. He was sentenced to 45 years in prison.

Castro’s government in August allowed the extradition treaty to expire, accusing the US of intervening in Honduras politics, and said it was planning a coup against her government and the military.

Manuel Zelaya, the husband of Honduras president, was expelled from power in 2009 in a right-wing military coup with support from the business community.

Barack Obama, then-US President, ultimately denounced the coup as “not legal,” but critics say it rarely stopped his administration from unfolding it.

A period of severe oppression continued, but Zelaya’s wife, Castro, made an election revival and became president in January 2022.

Castro said Tuesday that the new agreement includes guarantees of Honduras’ “military integrity.”

While positioning herself as a leftist and critic of her intervention in the region, her government has made a cooperative relationship with the United States on questions such as law enforcement and immigration. I’ve built it up.

US Ambassador Laura Dog recently criticised a meeting between Honduras authorities and Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez.
