Apple on Wednesday announced its new M5 chip and new iPad Pros, MacBook Pros, and Vision Pros powered by the new chip.

These devices are available for pre-order now, with shipping and in-store availability scheduled for October 22nd.

The M5 chip allows the new device to run faster than previous devices. Apple claims this chip has more than four times the peak GPU computing performance compared to the M4. Johnny Srouzi, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware technology, added in a statement that this “heralds the next big leap in AI performance for Apple silicon.”

For the new iPad Pro, Apple touts that the chip delivers “up to 3.5x more AI performance” than last year’s Pro and is up to 5.6x faster than the M1-powered iPad Pro.

Other upgrades include Apple’s C1X cellular modem with up to 50% faster cellular data performance and the N1 chip for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Thread connectivity. Additionally, the new iPad Pro has faster storage read and write speeds, allowing you to charge up to 50% in about 30 minutes.

Adding more power to the iPad Pro seems like a logical step for Apple to take. Because the tech giant is trying to make the iPad Pro more like a laptop. iPadOS 26 makes tablet windowing more intuitive, adds a Preview app, and makes it easier to create and organize folders.

Prices start at $999 for the 11-inch model and $1,299 for the 13-inch model, with color options available in black and silver.

The new 14-inch MacBook Pro is expected to be even faster than its predecessor, featuring upgraded graphics performance (up to 1.6x improvement), higher memory bandwidth of 153 Gbps (up from 120 Gbps in the M4), and improved storage speeds.

It also boasts a battery life of up to 24 hours.

Prices start at $1,599 and are available in Space Black and Silver.

The Vision Pro is set to be powered by the M5 chip, replacing the current M2.

The M5 chip enhances display rendering by 10%, supports refresh rates up to 120Hz (up from 100Hz), and accelerates AI-powered features to be 50% faster. Additionally, battery life is increased by 30 minutes, giving you up to 2.5 hours of typical use and up to 3 hours of video playback.

The upgraded Vision Pro also comes with dual knit bands that give users an even more comfortable fit. Available in small, medium and large sizes. The price remains at $3,499.

The announcement of the new Vision Pro comes on the heels of reports that Apple is shifting its focus to developing smart glasses rather than overhauling its VR headset.
