Shernaz Dever may be small in stature, but big in influence. Over 30 years in Silicon Valley, she has mastered the art of calling anyone with a simple text: “Can I call you?” or “Let’s talk tomorrow” and they do. Now, as he prepares to leave Khosla Ventures (KV) after nearly five years as the company’s first CMO, Dever could be an indicator of where the tech industry is headed. Her career has been an incredibly accurate barometer of what’s next in the industry. She was at Inktomi during the search wars of the late ’90s (the dot-com high-flyer reached…
Every time you hear a billionaire (or billionaire) CEO explain how LLM-based agents will take all jobs from humans, remember this funny and eloquent anecdote about the limits of AI. Renowned AI researcher Andrei Karpathy had one day’s early access to Google’s latest model, Gemini 3, but when he said the year was 2025, Gemini 3 refused to believe him. When the reality of this year finally dawned on me, the magazine was struck by lightning and announced, “I am currently suffering from a major temporary shock.” Gemini 3 was released on November 18th to such fanfare that Google called…
November 20, 2025Ravi LakshmananVulnerabilities / Cloud Computing Oligo Security has warned that an attack is underway that exploits a two-year-old security flaw in the Ray open source artificial intelligence (AI) framework to turn infected clusters powered by NVIDIA GPUs into self-replicating cryptocurrency mining botnets. The activity, codenamed “ShadowRay 2.0,” is an evolution of a previous wave observed from September 2023 to March 2024. The core of this attack is to exploit a critical missing authentication bug (CVE-2023-48022, CVSS score: 9.8) to take control of susceptible instances, take over their computing power, and perform illegal cryptocurrency mining using XMRig. The vulnerability…
NASA has released a treasure trove of 3I/ATLAS images of comets, giving us our closest look yet at an interstellar visitor. The U.S. government shutdown, which lasted from Oct. 1 to Nov. 12, delayed the release of much-anticipated images, including snapshots taken by instruments around Mars and the Sun over the past few months.Live Science has compiled some standout shots from the comet 3I/ATLAST image drop for you to enjoy below. The complete gallery is available on NASA’s website. you may like Comet 3I/ATLAS transiting Mars was captured by NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter on October 2nd. Scientists have found that moss spores can survive long-duration space travel. The spores spent nine months outside the International Space Station (ISS) before returning to Earth, where more than 80% of the spores were still able to reproduce. The discovery deepens our understanding of how plant species survive in extreme conditions, the researchers said in a study published Thursday (Nov. 20) in the journal iScience.Mosses thrive in some of the harshest environments on Earth, from the cold peaks of the Himalayas to the dry, scorched sands of Death Valley. Moss’s resilience to adverse conditions makes it an ideal candidate for surviving…
November 20, 2025Ravi LakshmananBotnet/Malware Cybersecurity researchers have warned that a botnet called “Tsundere” targeting Windows users is actively expanding. Kaspersky researcher Lisandro Uviedo said in an analysis published today that the threat has been active since mid-2025 and is designed to execute arbitrary JavaScript code retrieved from command-and-control (C2) servers. Details about how botnet malware is propagated are currently unknown. However, in at least one case, the attackers behind this operation allegedly used legitimate remote monitoring and management (RMM) tools as a conduit to download MSI installer files from a compromised site. The names given to the malware artifacts –…
We’ve all felt the creeping suspicion that what we’re reading is being written by a large language model. But it’s very difficult to pin down. For several months last year, everyone became convinced that certain words like “explore” and “underscore” could identify the model, but the evidence was thin, and as the models became more sophisticated, the telltale words became harder to track down. But as it turns out, the folks at Wikipedia have gotten pretty good at flagging prose written by AI. And this group’s public guide, “Signs of AI Writing,” is the best resource I’ve found to find…

ノルウェー中部の金属探知機が最近、バイキング時代の金属ブローチを発見した。 But when he led archaeologists to the site, they discovered much more. It was a burial with evidence of unusual rituals never seen before. “The most striking feature is the two scallop shells placed near the mouth of the deceased, a practice previously unknown in pre-Christian graves in Norway.”The burial was discovered earlier this year when detection engineer Roy Soren was searching a coastal area privately owned by Alve Instrand in Trøndelag County. Soren came up with an oval metal brooch typical of Viking Age jewelry. Instrand and Soren alerted archaeologists, who dug further and discovered a tomb filled…
