The agreement focuses on integrating BioLargo’s proprietary aqueous electrostatic concentrator (AEC) into Aquatech’s extensive PFAS treatment and destruction systems.

The companies say the partnership will help local government and industrial customers improve water treatment efficiency while meeting increasing environmental regulations.

Under the partnership, the two companies will jointly advance PFAS treatment projects globally, combining BioLargo’s concentration technology and Aquatech’s large-scale water purification expertise.

The move positions both companies to compete in the rapidly expanding PFAS remediation market as governments around the world increase scrutiny of contaminated water sources.

Tonya Chandler, President of BioLargo Equipment, commented on the partnership: “Partnering with Aquatech, one of the most respected and capable organizations in the global water treatment industry, allows us to significantly expand the reach and impact of our AEC technology.

“Together, we combine proven engineering, innovative science and deep market experience to deliver scalable PFAS treatment solutions to industrial, municipal and government customers.”

A new approach to PFAS treatment

PFAS are synthetic chemicals that are associated with environmental pollution and potential health risks. Their resistance to heat, water, and oil makes them widely used in industrial applications and consumer products, but their durability makes them difficult to remove from the environment.

BioLargo’s AEC system was developed to improve PFAS treatment by using electromotive force to capture and immobilize contaminants directly on the membrane surface. The company says the process is designed to produce treated water suitable for drinking water applications without creating secondary waste streams that require additional disposal.

This capability has the potential to solve one of the biggest operational challenges in PFAS treatment. PFAS processing produces concentrated waste that many conventional technologies still require destruction or long-term treatment.

Aquatech expands end-to-end PFAS solution

Aquatech, which specializes in sustainable water and wastewater technology, plans to incorporate the AEC system into its extensive PFAS treatment flowsheet, which includes pollutant destruction processes. The company’s portfolio includes membrane, thermal, biological, electrochemical, and ultrapure water treatment technologies.

“Combining BioLargo’s AEC PFAS collection and concentration technology with Aquatech’s PFAS removal and destruction expertise provides a strong opportunity to quickly deliver effective solutions to serve our customers,” added Devesh Mittal, vice president of Aquatech Environmental Services.

The partnership follows growing demand for scalable PFAS processing infrastructure from both utilities and industrial operators facing more stringent regulatory standards. Aquatech was recently recognized as Water Technology Company of the Year at the 2025 World Water Summit in Paris.

For BioLargo, this agreement supports a broader strategy to partner with established industry players to accelerate the commercialization of environmental technologies.
