With the latest wave of attacks, Israel attacks the Balze district of Damascus in Hama and Homs and “military capabilities.”
Israeli military aircraft are attacking in Syrian capital Damascus and Hama’s central province, with Israeli army and local media saying in the latest strikes on the war-torn country.
The state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said the attack on Wednesday targeted the airport near the scientific research centre in the capital’s Barze district and at the Syrian city of Hama.
Israeli forces confirmed the attack in a statement, saying it was attacked what was called “military capabilities” at Syrian military bases at T4 military airports in Hama City and Homs, and it was considered a military infrastructure site in Damascus.
Since the overthrow of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in December, Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes in Syria, deploying troops in the United Nations-patrol buffer zone high in occupied Golan.
Even if al-Assad had taken power, Israel routinely attacked Syria, bombing what it claimed to be a target for Iran and Hezbollah.
After the removal of al-Assad on December 8th, the Syrian Human Rights Observation (SOHR), a British-based war monitor, reported an Israeli strike targeting Barze’s research centre. Israel claims the centre was used to develop guided missiles and chemical weapons.
According to the SOHR, Israeli forces conducted more than 500 air force attacks on Syrian targets between December 8th and December 31st, 2024, and have carried out at least 43 attacks this year.
Western countries, including the US, had previously attacked the Ministry of Defense in 2018, which they said was linked to Syria’s “chemical weapons infrastructure.”
Last month, Israel said it had attacked T4 military bases twice, targeting military capabilities at the site.
Last Thursday, Syrian state media said Israeli strikes targeted the Latakian coastal province, and Soar said ammunition depots had been attacked.
Last month, European Union foreign policy director Kaja Karas said during a visit to Jerusalem that Israel’s attacks in Syria were “necessary” and threatened to make the situation worse.
Syrian Foreign Ministry accused Israel of campaigning against “national stability.”
