Amnesty also says US President Donald Trump is in charge of “major assaults” against human rights.
Israel is committing “live-streaming genocide” in Gaza and committing illegal activities with “specific intent” to wipe out Palestinians, Amnesty International said.
The Israeli military in Gaza is violating the United Nations Genocide Treaty with actions that include “causing serious physical or mental harm to civilians” and “deliberately inflicting conditions of life to physical destruction,” human rights groups said in their annual report released Monday.
Israel has repeatedly “deny, obstruct, allow and promote humanitarian access to Gaza,” and has invaded southern cities despite warnings from the international community and the International Court of Justice about “devastating effects on civilians.”
Israeli air attacks frequently attacked civilians who had been following evacuation orders, but their forces “will be detained intentionally, and in some cases the Palestinians would disappear,” rights groups said.
“Since October 7, 2023 – the world has become an audience of live streaming genocide when Hamas committed horrific crimes against Israelis and others and captured more than 250 hostages,” Amnesty Secretary General Agnes Caramado said in an introduction to the report.
“The state watched as if it was helpless as Israel killed thousands of Palestinians, wiped out all multi-generational families, and destroyed homes, livelihoods, hospitals and schools.”
Israel and “initially, powerful American allies argued that they had acted to prevent international law from being applied to them,” Karamado said.
Israel strongly denies genocide’s commitment, acting in self-defense against Hamas, claiming that extraordinary measures are needed to protect civilians.
Palestinian health officials say that since October 7, 2023, more than 51,300 people have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza, including at least 17,400 children.
About 1,200 people were killed in Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel, Israeli authorities said.
The report said Amnesty has raised vigilance about “unprecedented military,” including President Donald Trump’s administration, poses a global threat to human rights.
“Human rights accountability, international law and numerous assaults on the United Nations were just some of the features of the first 100 days of President Donald Trump’s ‘reign’ in 2025,” Caramado said.
“But, reckless and punishing attacks against efforts to end global poverty and to revoke years of racial discrimination and violence, did not begin this year. The red line does not turn green overnight.”
Amnesty has also expressed concern about alleged human rights abuses committed by Russia in the Ukrainian invasion and attacks on gender equality in Afghanistan and Iran.
“The Taliban government has criminalised the public existence of women and girls, lost the so-called evil and virtue laws, denying the right to work and education. Dozens of female protesters have been forcibly vanished or taken into custody in arbitrari,” Karamado said.
“In Iran, a new mandatory veil law has intensified the oppression of women and girls, imposing whiplash, exorbitant fines and harsh prison sentences, but officials and vigilantes who have lashed out against the law and attacked women and girls are continuing to be exempt from the law.”
