Los Angeles officials report that Los Angeles officials have not responded to inappropriate requests from residents to provide garbage services and toilets for the camp, according to Elizabethu of the Los Angeles Spabrick Press. Meanwhile, law enforcement is cracking down on camps. This is a move that says supporters will only push farther away from the service.

“Even though residents have not wanted basic hygiene services for years, funding for garbage pickup, public showers and bathrooms has not yet been prioritized in the city’s budget. The population of 4 million and the small number of hygiene and health services available to those who are not threatened are under threat.”

Last month, the city ended its program offering showers and toilets at camps in favour of more punitive measures. Chou explains that while the city was allocated $70 million to its “Care+” Sweeps program last year, the city has not committed ongoing funds to the camping service. Inappropriate people and advocates argue that putting more resources into regular garbage services and “spot cleaning” ultimately saves city money and provides a more humane solution that doesn’t involve throwing away people’s belongings.
