Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson has announced the city’s new Vision Zero Action Plan, which reduced traffic deaths by 7% between 2023 and 2024.
As Jeramey Jannene reports in Urban Milwaukee’s report, “The new action plan adopted unanimously at the Common Council last week will build a safe path for all users by prioritizing the most dangerous roads. State-level changes in law and practice.”
The mayor said the city is “redesigning 9% of streets where 59% of serious crashes occur,” and using tax increase funding to build better bike infrastructure and evaluate licensing systems to move dangerous drivers away from the streets. Johnson also said the city has whole blood in its fire department and is equipped to allow EMT to save lives and treat patients faster in the event of a crash.
