OpenAI on Friday began previewing a new personal finance tool for ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the US, allowing subscribers to connect to their accounts and ask questions ranging from spending analysis to future financial planning.
OpenAI has partnered with financial connectivity service Plaid to manage account connectivity. Users can connect to over 12,000 financial institutions, including Schwab, Fidelity, Chase, Robinhood, American Express, and Capital One. When users connect to these accounts, they see a dashboard of portfolio performance, spending, subscriptions, and upcoming payments.
The new product comes just a month after OpenAI acquired the team at personal finance startup hiro, backed by companies such as Ribbit, General Catalyst, and Restive, in April. OpenAI said the Hiro team’s financial expertise helped launch the product, but declined to say whether the entire feature was built by them.
OpenAI users can access the tool by selecting Get Started under the Finances option in the sidebar or by typing “@Finances, connect your account” in a ChatGPT conversation. Once the user does this, the chatbot will guide them through linking their accounts through Plaid. The company said it plans to support Intuit in the near future, which will enable analysis such as the tax implications of stock sales and the probability of credit card approval.

According to OpenAI, over 200 million users already ask ChatGPT financial questions every month. The company also noted that the new GPT-5.5 model is better at contextual reasoning, which is important for answering financial questions. The company said it collaborated with financial experts to create benchmark models to improve personal financial questions.
New financial tool integrations allow users to get detailed answers to questions like, “I feel like I’ve been spending more lately. Has anything changed?” or “Please help me plan to buy a home in my area within the next five years.”

General-purpose chatbots are designed to answer anything and encourage people to ask questions about data-sensitive topics such as health, finance, and personal life. AI companies are aware of this and are producing products specifically for these areas. OpenAI and Anthropic have both launched health-related tools. Earlier this month, Perplexity launched its own financial research product based on computer agents.
OpenAI said its personal finance tools will be available on ChatGPT on the web and on iOS for Pro users. Based on feedback from these users, the company says it hopes to improve the product before it becomes available to Plus users.
