Palestinian officials identified the 14-year-old as Omar Mohammed Rabea and said it was close to a Terms Aya settlement when settlers opened fire.
Since the start of Israel’s war in Gaza, it has risen sharply with violence, invasions, attacks and arsons by settlers on the Palestinians of the territory and their property. Israeli forces have also carried out sustained attacks on the territories of various cities and towns.
Lavear was shot dead by the settlers along with two other teenagers, town mayor Addib Rafi said.
Palestinian officials condemned the shooting. “This is yet another example of ongoing Israeli settler violence against Palestinians and is exempt from it,” one source said.
The victims’ families have not yet issued an official statement but have expressed their sadness over their loss.
International criticism of the widening Israeli settlement and violence by Jewish settlers has been growing, drawing criticism from human rights groups around the world.
Israeli forces have launched an investigation into the killing, but there have been no immediate comments from authorities. Israeli military and settlers are largely active, without fear of the judicial impact in the Palestinian region.
There have been several cases of American citizens killed by Israelis on the occupied West Bank.
In 2024, 26-year-old Turkish-American activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi was shot in the head by Israeli soldiers while protesting illegal Israeli settlements.
Shireen Abuakure, a Palestinian-American journalist from Al Jazeera, was also killed by Israeli forces in 2022.
