This is an important development on the 1,082nd day of the full-scale invasion of Russia’s Ukraine.

The situation for Monday, February 10th is as follows:

Fineting

The Russian Ministry of Defense said the Kremlin forces destroyed 35 Ukrainian drones overnight, with more than half of them defeating Russia’s Kursk region, adjacent to Ukraine. The Ukrainian military said 70 of the 151 Russian drones were released overnight. According to the military, 74 did not reach the target. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has confirmed an overnight drone attack on Kyiv, which caused fire in a non-resident building. No injuries were reported immediately. Ukrainian President Voldy Mieselensky confirmed the new Ukrainian attacks in Kursk, adding that North Korean forces are fighting alongside Russian forces. He said “a considerable number” of enemy forces had been killed. The Russian Ministry of Defense said Moscow’s troops had captured the village of Orikovo Basilivka in eastern Ukraine. The village is located near Chashiv Yah and is reportedly being attempted to seize it by strategic military hub Moscow.

Politics and diplomacy

German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz has denounced US President Donald Trump’s demands on Ukrainian rare earth minerals in exchange for “selfish and selfish.” He said that countries that should provide assistance without asking for payment in return should. Zelenskyy said he wanted his allies to invest in Kyiv’s mineral resources, and that the country would not provide rare earths for free. “It’s about partnerships. Put your money in. Invest it,” he said. Zelensky also accused Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin of wanting to extend the war rather than engage in ceasefire negotiations. Zelenskyy said in a video message to his country that Russia and North Korea’s cooperation is expanding.

Trump had a phone conversation with Putin and discussed the end of the war in Ukraine, the New York Post reported. Putin refused to let him know how many times they spoke, saying, “I want to see people stop dying.” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov refused to confirm or deny reporting of telephone conversations, Russian state-run TASS news agency reported. Russia’s UN ambassador to the United Nations Vasily Nevenja said Russia is waiting for a “appropriate signal” from Washington about its contact with Moscow, and that Russia is “equally” ready for a meeting with Ukraine. Novosti reported. The Baltic countries of Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia were connected to the European power grid, connecting Soviet-era links with Russian networks. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda confirmed the switch and said, “We have achieved full energy independence.”
