The new government’s emission reduction trial will reduce energy bills for pubs, cafes, restaurants and hotels across the UK as part of the Change Initiative’s plan.

Over 600 small and medium-sized hospitality businesses receive free energy and carbon reduction ratings to reduce energy costs, support productivity and drive growth.

The trial, funded by government-funded by Zero Carbon Services, one of the UK’s leading net zero advisors, is expected to save businesses that exceed £3 million.

The hospitality sector is primarily composed of small and medium-sized businesses, supporting 3.5 million jobs and giving £93 million to the UK economy.

The scheme supports businesses to make cost-effective changes, such as fixing gaps in insulation, upgrading to low-energy lighting, and fine-tuning heating settings that lead to significant annual savings.

The start of the trial is ahead of the government’s modern industrial strategy and will stumble growth in the UK’s major sectors, including clean energy.

“We’re looking forward to seeing you get the most out of our business,” said Mark Chapman, CEO of Zero Carbon Services. “Climate change is already impacting extreme weather events as they reduce sales and food supply costs and combined with other increased costs.

“We have already helped thousands of UK pubs, restaurants and hotels cut carbon and costs, and the scheme has allowed us to provide that support to even more independent businesses.”

Kate Nicholls, CEO of Ukhospitality, commented: “The hospitality business has already made great strides to reduce emissions, but we are keen to save costs and go even faster to become more sustainable.”

“We are pleased to support this new trial that will help businesses cut their emissions even further, and we look forward to working with the government and Zero Carbon Services.”
