The US President updates his call to end Iran’s support for Yemeni groups targeting Israel in the war in Gaza.
WASHINGTON, DC — Donald Trump has renewed his call for Iran to end support for the Housis, pledging that the Yemeni group will be defeated by the United States.
The US President’s comments on Wednesday came the day after the Houtis claimed an attack targeting US warships in the Red Sea region and a missile launch against Israel.
Wednesday also marked yet another day for us being attacked by bases in Houthi, Yemen, including the capital Sanaa.
“Look at how Houthi Barbarians suffer a lot of damage and it gradually gets worse. It’s not even a fair fight and it’s never going to happen,” Trump wrote in a social media post. “They will disappear completely!”
This month, the US launched several attacks on the Housis, which controlled Sanaa and presented itself as the official army of the country.
Since 2023, Houthis has targeted ships in and around the Red Sea, launching missiles in Israel, putting pressure on the Israeli government to end the war with Gaza.
The group suspended attacks on the Red Sea during the Gaza ceasefire but rebooted earlier this month in response to Israel’s lockdown on humanitarian assistance to Palestinian territory.
Houthis also resumed direct military operations against Israel after Israeli forces broke a two-month ceasefire and killed hundreds of Palestinians this week.
Former US President Joe Biden’s administration also bombed the position of Houthi in Yemen, but the Washington campaign failed to stop the group’s attacks.
In a social media post Wednesday, Trump cited the “report” and insisted that Iran reduces support for the Houtis, but still “sends large-scale supplies.”
“Iran must immediately stop sending these supplies,” he wrote. “Let Houthis fight yourself. Either way, you’ll lose, but you’ll lose it right away in this way.”
Trump previously threatened with retaliation if Iran did not control the Houtis.
Although Houtis is officially known as Ansal Allah, he is allied with Iran, it is not clear how much he relies on Iran’s support and whether Tehran can order the attack to stop.
However, Trump portrayed the Houtis as the arm of the Iranian government.
“All shots fired by the Houthis from this point are considered shots fired from Iran’s weapons and leadership, and Iran is responsible, suffering from consequences, and those consequences will be disastrous.”
Houthis vowed to dismiss the US threat and airstrikes and continue its attack until Israel ends its attack on Gaza.
“The Yemeni military has asserted that US invasions will not stop Yemen, who is struggling to fulfill their religious, moral and humanitarian duties to the Palestinian people,” the group said in a statement Tuesday.
“They assert that unless the brutal attacks on Gaza are stopped and the blockade is lifted, they will escalate military operations against Zionist enemies.”
Trump blacklisted the Housis as a “foreign terrorist organization” early in this year’s presidency. The Biden administration labelled the group as “specially designated global terrorists.” This is a slightly lower specification when there is less limit.
