Hamdan Baral, the Palestinian co-director of the Oscar-winning documentary, was released from other lands detained by Israeli forces after being attacked by settlers.

In a post on social media platform X on Tuesday, his fellow co-director Yuval Abraham said:

The Associated Press news agency said journalists saw Baral and two other Palestinians leaving a police station detained in the Israeli settlement of Kiriyat Alba on the occupied West Bank.

The AP reported that the ball had a bruise on his face and blood in his clothes.

Baral said he was detained at an army base and forced to sleep under frozen air conditioners.

“I was blindfolded 24 hours a day,” he told the Associated Press.

“I was frozen all night. It was in the room. I couldn’t see anything… I heard the soldiers laughing at me.”

Lea Tsemel, the lawyer representing the three men, said she received minimal care for injuries caused by the attack and was unable to access for hours after her arrest. She previously said they were accused of throwing stones at young settlers.

Other directors from other lands exploring the struggles of life under Israeli occupation won the stage at the 97th Academy Awards in Los Angeles earlier this month when the film won an Oscar for the Oscars.

On Monday, about 20 settlers (some were masked, some in gun-carrying guns and military uniforms) attacked the west bank village of West Bank in the evening as residents fasted during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The soldiers who arrived pointed their guns at the Palestinians, but the settlers continued to throw stones, but residents told the Associated Press.

The director’s wife, Ramia Baral, said she heard her husband being beaten outside their home while she flocked with her three children. She heard him screaming, “I’m dying!” And they ask for an ambulance.

When she looked out the window, she saw three uniform men pounding the ball, another man wearing a rifle ass and civilian clothes that appeared to be filming violence.

“Of course, after the Oscars, they started attacking us more,” Lamia said. “I felt fear.”

Human rights group Amnesty International has sought accountability for the attack.

“Hamdan Biral was forcibly disappeared by Israeli soldiers after being assaulted by Israeli settlers attacking Palestinians… he has now been released, but the person who attacked must be held responsible,” he said in a post in X.

Baral said he was attacked by famous settlers who threatened him in the past.

Settlers can be seen alongside other masked men in videos that have been widely distributed since August. “This is my land and I was given to you by God,” the settler says on the video. He also tries to get a balal to fight him, using blasphemy. “Next time will not be good,” the settlers said in the video.

On Tuesday, small blood stains were seen outside the family home in Baral, causing the car’s windshield and windows to shatter. The neighbor pointed to a nearby aquarium with a hole on the side that he said was punched by the settlers.

Basel Adora – Another co-director of the film, a prominent Palestinian activist in the region, said that since Oscar won, there have been a massive rise in attacks by settlers and Israeli forces.

“No one can do anything to stop the pogrom. The soldiers are there just to promote and help the attack,” he said.

“We live here, in Gaza and all the dark days in the West Bank… no one has stopped this.”

Israeli forces said Monday they detained three Palestinians suspected of throwing rocks at the troops and Israeli civilians involved in what they call violent confrontations.
