The UK government confirmed an increase in visa fees as part of its spring statement on March 26th.

The announcement was presented to Parliament by the Prime Minister of Parliament.

Ukinbound, the UK’s only trade association representing the inbound tourism sector, commented on the announcement.

“We’re looking forward to seeing you in the future,” said Joss Croft OBE, CEO of Ukinbound.

“It is very unfortunate that the Prime Minister has announced an increase in visa costs that opposes the government’s welcome ambition to increase international visitors to 50m by 2030. Inbound tourism could help realize the government’s growth targets, but this decision faces it.”

He continued:

“Our inbound tourism industry is already fighting with high air costs and increased visa fees, further reducing competition for international visitors in the UK. The cost of ETAS has increased by 60%, which is the third increase in visa costs in 18 months.”

Finally, Croft said:

“We are asking the government to focus on reviewing all UK tourism costs and taxes as part of our planned tourism strategy, hampering the rise in international visitors and removing this competitive disadvantage that will thwart economic growth across the UK.”
