The Prime Minister of Greenland responds to Trump’s claims against Greenland, claiming that the territory will determine its own future.

Greenland’s newly elected prime minister, Jens Frederick Nielsen, responded to President Donald Trump’s recent comments on the annexation of the vast Arctic region, saying he would not hand over the territory to the United States.

“President Trump says the US has won Greenland. Let’s be clear. The US won’t get it. We don’t belong to anyone else. We’ll decide our future,” Nielsen said in a Facebook post on Sunday.

Trump told NBC News on Saturday that he had a “absolutely” debate over the possibility of annexing Greenland. “We’re getting Greenland. Yeah, 100%,” he said, doubleping his point.

Tensions between the two countries escalated after US Vice President JD Vance visited a military base in Greenland and accused Denmark of failing to properly protect the strategically located island.

Vance argues that the US can provide better security to the region, which holds important geopolitical values.

In response, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Rocke Rasmussen expressed his dissatisfaction with the “tone” of the US administration during their criticism.

“We don’t appreciate the tone it’s being delivered. This is not a way you talk to your intimate ally,” Rasmussen said in a social media video, reaffirming Danish’s commitment to Arctic security and willingness to work with the United States.

Despite this diplomatic line, Trump remains rebellious and told NBC News that “I have never taken military power off the table.”

However, Rasmussen argued that despite continuing tensions over the issue, Denmark and the United States are still close ally.

Greenland, Danish semi-autonomous territory, remains a key point of contention as Trump seeks greater influence in the region for national security reasons.
