The death toll was announced as Israel launched a new attack in southern Lebanon, killing one person and wounding three.

The UN says at least 71 civilians have been killed by Israeli forces in Lebanon since the ceasefire was hit late last year.

Thameen Al-Kheetan, a spokesman for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), said Tuesday it included 14 women and nine children. He called for an investigation into “all military actions in which civilians were killed.”

OHCHR raised concerns about recent Israeli military operations that have been hit by civilian infrastructure, including the April 3 strike that destroyed a newly established medical centre run by the Islamic Health Association in southern Nakoura.

The Israeli military also noted that at least five rockets, two mortars and drones have been fired from Lebanon towards northern Israel, leaving tens of thousands of Israelis evacuated from the north.

“Certainment fires must be maintained and escalation is a generally stability risk across Lebanon, Israel and the region,” Alkitan said.

Later on Tuesday, Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health reported that an Israeli drone killed one person and injured three people, including a child, in a car in a southern town in Atalun.

Israel’s attack

Israel has been attacking Lebanon since the ceasefire on November 27th, including an attack on the capital, Beirut.

Under the armistice, Hezbollah was to withdraw fighter jets from south of Lebanon’s Ritani River and dismantle remaining military infrastructure while Israel was supposed to pull all troops from southern Lebanon.

As Israeli forces retreated, Lebanese forces have been deployed south near the border with Israel, but Israel continues to hold five fortified positions considered “strategic” in Lebanon.

Lebanese President Joseph Aung told Al Jazeera on Monday that the Army has “dismantled tunnels and warehouses and confiscated weapons bases.”

On Thursday, a Hezbollah official told Reuters that he is ready to hold talks with the Lebanese president about his weapons if Israel withdraws from southern Lebanon and stops its strike.
