A report of an explosion was reported in Al-Mayadeen in the countryside of Deir Az Zor, causing several people to be injured.
SANA News Agency reports that at least three people have been killed in an explosion targeting a police station in the eastern Syrian town of Al Mayaden, citing security sources.
A rural explosion of Deir Az Zor on Sunday also injured several people, according to the report, not providing further details.
Videos verified by Sanad of Al Jazeera’s fact-checking unit show the aftermath of the explosion.
The incident comes a day after Syrian authorities said security forces killed three ISIL (ISIS) fighter jets and arrested four other people in Aleppo. It was the first time the interim government has announced such an operation against an armed group.
Syrian Interior Ministry said in a statement on Saturday that the attack launched in conjunction with the General Information Bureau and in conjunction with the General Information Bureau will target several ISIL sleeper cells operating across Aleppo. He said one security guard was killed during the surgery.
Ahmed Alshara, a temporary Syrian who assumed power in Damascus in December, has long been opposed to ISIL. His army fought against the group’s self-declared caliph during the Syrian War.
Al-Sharah took power after an armed group of Hayat Taharir al-Shaam, who overthrew longtime Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, led an opposing lightning attack. Al-Sharaa cut ties with Al-Qaeda in 2016.
The latest operation comes just months after Syrian authorities said they had blocked the ISIL bombing plot near Seida Zainab Shrine, a key pilgrimage site for Shia Muslims south of Damascus.
This also comes after US President Donald Trump surprised the world on Tuesday by announcing the US to lift national sanctions. This is a move that Syrians hope that their country will reintegrate into the global economy and bring much needed investments.
