Unity CTO Steve Collins will resign in six months

Steve Collins, CTO of Game Engine Developer Unity, has resigned from Stepping Down, a company representative confirmed by TechCrunch.

He joined Unity just six months ago after serving as CTO for King, the mobile gaming company behind Candy Crush.

According to Unity, Collins has decided to leave the company from his own consent.

“We can confirm that Steve Collins has decided to leave unity for personal reasons,” said a company representative. “We are grateful for his contributions. We are confident that as we continue to change, our world-class technical teams will continue to move forward with our strategy.”

Unity has faced many internal conflicts over the past few years. In the fall of 2023, the company announced controversial changes to its pricing model that infuriated the developer community. Some of these changes have returned, but as a result, the company’s CEO, John Richtiello, has resigned. A few months later, Unity lifted 25% of its staff, equivalent to 1,800 jobs.

Unity is currently at a certain distance from these events, but some game developers have a distrust of the company.

Collins’ departure is not necessarily related to Unity’s struggle, but another executive shakeup could prove to be destructive.
