Collibra gets data access startup Raito

Collibra, a Brussels-based data governance platform, is the latest to acquire data companies to expand their offerings in the age of AI.

On Thursday, Collibra announced the acquisition of Raito, a data access startup founded in 2021. Located in Brussels, Raito helps businesses manage which employees and customers have access to internal data.

Colibra declined to comment on the terms of the transaction. Raito previously raised $4 million in venture capital from investors, including Dawn Capital, Crane Venture Partners and Collibra itself.

Collibra Founder and CEO Felix Van De Maele told TechCrunch that managing data access is not a new issue for businesses, but it is becoming a bigger headache for data teams as more departments seeking access to AI agents and workflow automation.

“We’ve heard from customers and large organizations that managing large data access is a huge problem,” Van des Maré said. “So the traditional approach doesn’t scale anymore. They’re way too fragile. They’re manual workflows, [based on] Static policy. ”

van de Maele added that Colibra already has a similar product, Colibra protection, touching on these access controls, but primarily focuses on keeping your data private. Raito’s technology helps Colibra to enhance and automate its products.

It’s not just a company that focuses on data access. Legacy companies such as SailPoint and SecureAuth are just a few of the companies that also offer data access tools. Van de Maere said that buying lights is the right choice for the company, rather than partnering with legacy players.

Wright also did not hurt that it was founded by a former Colibra employee.

“We too [were] Are you looking for a team you want to continue building? Van de Maere said. “That really marks the beginning of this journey,” he said.

This is just the latest acquisition of data companies aimed at dealing with invalidating data governance as companies try to strengthen their stacks to adapt to AI innovation. Last week, Salesforce announced its intention to acquire Informatica for the same reasons. At the beginning of May, both Alation and ServiceNow made similar acquisitions.

van de Maele added that advances in AI have made people realize how fragmented the data stack has become, as many players have been flooded with single-point data solutions over the past decade.

“Governance fragmentation is a really big issue, so I was excited to win Raito and actually make it part of Collibra, a unified governance platform for data and AI,” said Van de Maele.

Collibra was founded in 2008 as an early player in the data governance sector. The company has since raised nearly $600 million from venture capital, particularly from companies such as Index Ventures, Sequoia and Tiger Global. The company works with companies such as Heineken, Credits Wisdom and SAP.
