The PGA commissioner hopes to negotiate a deal with BreakAway LIV Golf in the hopes of the US President ending the sport’s partition at a professional level.

The PGA Tour asks President Donald Trump to help deal with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), which could lead to a much-anticipated alliance between the parties.

PIF is a financial backer for the Liv Golf League and has invited some of the PGA Tour stars to big money contracts and tournament pay.

In a statement issued Thursday, the PGA Tour said Commissioner Jay Monaghan and player director Adam Scott met Trump on Tuesday.

“Golf fans are enthusiastically anticipating a resolution to negotiate with the public investment fund and would like to thank President Trump for his interest in golf games and for his long-standing support,” Player Director Tiger Woods.

“We asked the President to be involved for the interests of the game, the interests of the nation and all the countries involved. His leadership brings us closer to the final deal, and the male professionals are the ones who are involved. I am grateful that they paved the way for unifying golf.”

It has been more than 18 months since the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and PIF announced the Alliance’s “framework agreement” that shocked the world of sports. On December 31, 2023, the parties blew the deadline to close the transaction after passing the voluntary challenge.

The only real news from last year took place in June when PIF Governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan met PGA Tour representatives in New York on the anniversary week of the framework agreement.

Trump has a position and credibility with the founder of LIV.

Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami will hold an event in April, as it was held in 2023. That year, Trump courses in Washington, DC and Bedminster, New Jersey also held LIV events.

On Tuesday, Trump said that although no exact dates were announced, he would soon be visiting the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia.
