The British Association of Specialist Congress Organizers (ABPCO) has released its latest economic impact report. The data show that post-Covid growth continues throughout its membership in 2024.

The results are based on responses from 59 member organizations, which are about half of ABPCO membership. This is the second year of the report and provides benchmarks for the same period last year.

Important findings

62% of their members managed an event portfolio that exceeded £1 million. 10% exceeded £10 million. 80% managed a portfolio that exceeded £500,000. A total of 1,020,000 delegates were welcomed at 6,336 events. The sector provided 7,500 event dates. 75% of events have become direct (a slight decrease from 82% in 2023). £42 million has been spent on the exhibition space (up 47% from 2023). £48 million has been secured through sponsorship revenues (up from £45 million in 2023). Employment rose 2.5% in member organizations.

Sector breakdown

ABPCO members are aligned with the government’s priority sector.

Professional and Business Services: 47% Life Science: 44% Creative Industry: 23% Advanced Manufacturing: 15% Clean Energy: 11%

Looking forward to 2025

49% plan to run more events. 36% are hoping for an increase in the number of delegations. 50% expect to spend more. More than 1,400 reservations are still required to complete your destination. We have not yet checked venues for reservations of over 10,000.

Dr. James Musgrave, head of the UK’s Event Management Centre, said he conducted the research.

“ABPCO members are maintaining post-Covid rebounds. In 2024, they delivered over a million representatives and promoted considerable economic value across the country. The signs of 2025 are strong.”

ABPCO represents the UK-based PCOS, which is working on a non-profit conference with the association. The data reflects responses from both internal and agency organizers.
