From the very boring world of employee onboarding platforms and 401(k) management, another tantalizing allegation of corporate espionage has emerged. All year long, we’ve been following the ongoing battle between HR software giants Rippling and Deal. Both companies are currently embroiled in a lawsuit featuring planted moles and accusations of organized data theft. Now, as first spotted by Axios, the second act begins. 401(k) management unicorns Human Interest and Guidelines face off in federal court over embarrassingly brazen charges. Here’s an excerpt from Human Interest’s lawsuit against the guidelines filed this month in federal court in Utah: “We’re going to…
When powering large companies with multi-building campuses, the allocation system is outdated. Unlike homeowners who pay only for what they actually use, campuses purchase standard monthly capacity. Common sense dictates that this capacity should be based on your maximum usage needs. This is true even if the company consumes such maximum usage only rarely, such as during a single busy season. This was a situation that really bothered SaLisa Berrien, founder and CEO of COI Energy. After earning a degree in mechanical engineering (later an MBA), she spent 25 years working as an energy engineer for major power companies such…
Scientists have found that artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots may give you more accurate answers when you’re rude, but they warned against the potential harm of using demeaning language. In a new study published October 6 in the arXiv preprint database, scientists wanted to test whether politeness or rudeness makes a difference in the performance of an AI system. This study has not yet been peer-reviewed.To test how a user’s tone affects answer accuracy, the researchers created 50 basic multiple-choice questions and modified them with prefixes to follow five categories of tone: very polite, polite, neutral, rude, and very rude. Questions spanned…
Apple has announced that it will soon introduce an Apple Wallet feature that will allow U.S. users to use their passports to create digital IDs that can be used at some TSA checkpoints for domestic travel. The feature was previously announced as part of the iOS 26 release and comes on the heels of Apple expanding Wallet as not only a payment mechanism and ticket holder, but also a secure place to store a user’s digital identity. Support for government IDs in Apple Wallet is currently rolled out to 12 states and Puerto Rico, or approximately one-third of licensees in…

October 27, 2025Ravi LakshmananArtificial intelligence/vulnerabilities Cybersecurity researchers have discovered a new vulnerability in OpenAI’s ChatGPT Atlas web browser. This vulnerability could allow a malicious attacker to inject malicious instructions into the memory of an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered assistant and potentially execute arbitrary code. “This exploit could allow an attacker to infect a system with malicious code, grant themselves access, or deploy malware,” Or Eshed, co-founder and CEO of LayerX Security, said in a report shared with The Hacker News. The core of this attack exploits a cross-site request forgery (CSRF) flaw that can potentially inject malicious instructions into ChatGPT’s persistent…
“Science never solves the problem” has become the go-to slogan for populists seeking to legitimize politically expedient but marginal scientific positions. In 2020, MAGA Republican Rep. Nancy Mace was asked whether she agreed that climate change is the result of human-made greenhouse gas emissions. She replied: “My opponents say this issue is scientifically settled. Well, science is never settled. Scientists will tell you that.””I’m a doctor. Science never solves things. That’s what makes us scientists,” Sen. Roger Marshall said in February, calling for more funding to investigate the widely debunked link between autism and vaccines. The phrase also crossed the Atlantic.…
