Github, Microsoft accepts human specifications for connecting AI models to data sources

Github’s corporate parents Github and Microsoft are participating in the MCP steering committee, the human standard for connecting AI models to systems in which data resides.

The announcement made Monday at Microsoft’s Build 2025 Conference comes as MCPs increase steam in the AI industry. Earlier this year, Openai and Google said they will support MCP with their respective AI products.

With MCP, models can draw data from sources such as business tools and software to complete tasks from content repository and app development environments. This protocol allows developers to build two-way connections between data sources and AI-powered applications such as chatbots.

Developers can build “MCP clients” (for example, apps, workflows, etc.) that expose data via “MCP servers” and connect to the server on commands.

Microsoft and Github say they will provide “wide range of first-party support” for MCPs across platforms and services, including Microsoft Azure and Windows 11. For example, in the coming months, Windows will gain MCP integration that allows developers to publish app features to MCP-enabled models.

“Developers can wrap desired features and features in their apps as MCP servers and make them available. […] For Windows, Microsoft will explain in the press documentation provided to TechCrunch. [models] To communicate with. ”

Github and Microsoft have also made several contributions to the MCP standard.

Microsoft says its identity and security teams have worked with the human race, the MCP Steering Committee and the broader MCP community to design an updated authentication specification that will allow MCP connectivity apps to connect more securely to MCP servers. This specification allows people to use “trusted sign-in methods” to provide AI-powered apps with access to data and services, such as personal storage drives and subscription plans.

Meanwhile, Github says that IT and the MCP Steering Committee have worked together to design the registry service for the MCP server. This service allows developers to implement public or private centralized repository for MCP server entries, allowing them to discover and manage various MCP implementations in related configurations.
