Google pulls Gemini from iOS’s main search app

Google is pulling AI assistant Gemini from its main Google app for iOS devices. The move is intended to encourage users to download the standalone Gemini app instead. This allows Google to compete more directly with other consumer-oriented AI chatbots such as ChatGpt, Claude, and Perplexity. However, since Google’s apps are already used by millions, the risk of reducing Gemini reach may also change, and many people are motivated to download other new mobile applications. Not there.

The Tech giant warned customers of the change via email warning that “Gemini is no longer available on the Google app.”

This email suggested that anyone who still wants to use gemini on iOS download the Gemini app from the App Store. The app was launched to iOS users all over the world late last year, but up until now, Gemini has also become available within the main Google app.

Along with Gemini on iOS, people can have voice conversations with AI assistants via Gemini Live. Connect Google apps such as Search, YouTube, Maps, Gmail and more to Gemini. Ask questions and explore topics. Planning trips; Get AI summary and deep dives. Create an image. more. Users can interact with Gemini using text, audio, or camera.

Additionally, this email reminds users that Gemini can still make mistakes, so users must continue to double-check their responses.

Customers who wish to upgrade to a paid subscription that offers access to Gemini Advanced can also do this through the iOS app, where the Google One AI Premium Plan is offered as an in-app purchase.

When an iOS customer tries to access Gemini via the main Google app, he receives a full screen message saying “Gemini has its own app” and a link to the App Store download.

On Google’s side, it’s a risky bet for users to try and push them to download the app rather than keeping the functionality already in the app that already exists on their phones. It could be easier to deploy new AI features quickly, but there could be some drop-offs in using Gemini as it inevitably doesn’t switch.
