According to Freeman Report, technology remains a mark in the event industry, with 44% of participants considering the use of technology, which is essential for event engagement.
The advent of AI means that the sector is considering how to integrate the ways in which this new technology is delivered. Half of all organizers plan to use AI according to AMEX GBT Global Prediction 2025, but 40% and 31% are looking to incorporate virtual reality, aiming to use mobile apps as part of their events.
At the same time, there is also the demand from the audience for a more personal approach. They want to receive recommendations to help them schedule time at the event. And they want an experience tailored to their interests.
Hainsworth highlights the challenge of balancing the role of technology in personalization and improving the audience experience. He proposes using AI for behind-the-scenes tasks, such as data analysis, information personalization, and improving global communication, rather than replacing human interactions.
Inclusion and diversity
Technology helps tackle industry accessibility and inclusiveness challenges, from translation apps for foreign language speakers to navigation navigation for visually impaired participants.
Hainsworth outlines barriers remain despite efforts to expand participation in the sport, and the power of sports reports reveals that 52% of people with disabilities struggle to participate in live events due to accessibility issues.
The same challenges range from non-sports events. There, 68% of industry respondents on the inclusiveness issue cited the lack of diverse expressions as a barrier. Other obstacles include socioeconomic, physical and linguistic barriers, transportation difficulties and unconscious bias.
The future is more environmentally friendly
Sustainability is also an important factor when it comes to the success of the 2025 event. Event participants expect a true commitment to green practices beyond the “standards.”
This was proven throughout the Parisio Lymph 2024, the first summer game held after the publication of the sustainability-focused Olympic Agenda. While 95% of the venue were existing or temporary structures, new infrastructures like Aquatics Center included features such as solar panels, biosour materials and seats made from recycled bottle caps. The game used 100% renewable energy, all venues were accessible via public transport, and athletes were transported using electric, hybrid and hydrogen-powered vehicles.
Looking forward to 2025, event organizers are encouraged to consider eco-friendly venue choices, travel and logistics, and sustainability remains a key focus.
Hainsworth is set to grow to around £16 trillion over the next four years, so while it is clear that organizers will have plenty of opportunities to make the most of their success and make the most of their profits, it is important to ensure that a focus on both technology and accessibility ensures that the sector is able to meet the challenges of 2025 and beyond.
