Event Management student Gracie Phippen has successfully completed a year-long internship at the event agency and strengthened the institution’s commitment to fostering the next generation of industry professionals.

A Leeds Beckett University event management student, Phippen joined the agency as part of her placement year and quickly became a valuable member of the team.

Over the course of 12 months, she gained hands-on experience across live, hybrid and virtual projects, supporting creative development, project delivery, and contributed to the handling of on-site logistics. Her role has allowed her to develop key skills in planning, communication, client care and corporate operations.

As part of the internship, Phippen also participated in the primary internal sustainability team, actively supporting the agency’s work towards ISO 20121 certification in event sustainability. This provided industry best practices and sustainable delivery experience in CSR. This is an area of increasing importance to clients and institutions.

Client Services Director Sam Lung said: “At Primary, we see mentoring as an investment in the future of the industry. We wanted to be more than a shadowy intermittent. Gracie was fully embedded in the team and treated as a full-time member of a team with responsibility and client-facing tasks.”

The initiative underscores the value of building strong partnerships with universities and educational institutions to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry practice.

Primary believes that structured, practical experience is one of the most effective ways to develop a skilled and adaptable pipeline for future event experts.

Weekly mentoring, on-site training and regular reviews ensured that Gracie’s learning remains a structured impact not only on her but also on the team.

Fippen said: “This internship has given me much more than I expected, from learning how to manage real projects to building trust in a fast-paced live event environment.

Fippen is currently completing his final year at Leeds Beckett and has left the strong foundation of real-world experience.

Following the success of this placement, the main plan plans to continue its commitment to providing future internships as part of its long-term talent and growth strategy, as well as to support the broader growth of the event industry.
