The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is calling on the international community to seriously destroy the sacred sites in order to deal with “stimulation.”

The Palestinian government has expressed “extreme concerns” over the threat circulating among Israeli settlers to destroy the Al-Aqsa mosque.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates on Saturday in a call by Israeli settlers’ organisations, warned them to flee Hebrew social media platforms, attack and destroy mosques and build temples at the site.

The compounds of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem, the third most sacred place of Islam and symbolize Palestinian identity, represent the strengthened tensions between Muslims and Jews amid Israel’s war with Gaza.

An AL-generated video depicting the destruction of the mosque and the construction of the “Third Temple” under the title “Next Year in Jerusalem next year” was released on the platform earlier this week.

In a statement published on X, the ministry said it viewed the social media post as “a systematic instigation to escalate the targeting of Christian and Islamic holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.”

“The ministry calls on the international community and its associated UN agencies to address the utmost seriousness of this agitation and take necessary measures under international law,” he said.

Normal target

The compounds of the Al-Aqsa Mosque are administered by Jordan, but access to the site itself is controlled by Israeli soldiers.

Al-Aqsa has been a regular target for visits by Israeli right-wing politicians and Israeli settlers, raiding compounds almost every week and performing religious rituals under Israeli military protection.

This compound is also considered an important place by the Jews. The Jews believe it is the location of the First and Second Temples, the latter being destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD.

In the decades-old status quo maintained by Israeli authorities, Jews and other non-Muslims are permitted to visit East Jerusalem compounds that were occupied during designated times, but are not permitted to pray or display religious symbols there.

Last August, right-wing Israeli national security minister Itamar Ben Gwil sparked rage, saying he would build a Jewish synagogue on the compounds of the Al-Axa Mosque.

When considered a fringe movement, the campaign to build a “Third Temple” in Al-Aqsa has grown in Israel, and many Palestinians are similar to what happened in Hebron. In Hebron, the Ibrahimi Mosque, known as the Cave of Patrichaki, was divided.

Since taking office in December 2022, Ben Goville has visited the Holy Land at least six times as Minister of National Security, causing severe condemnation.
