The crisis of immigration and cost of living on voters’ minds as they head to the voting booth to elect their next government.

The vote is underway in the general election in Portugal (the third year of many years).

Sunday’s snap election was called after Prime Minister Louis Montenegro, who leads the Central Right Democrat Union, lost parliamentary votes.e March, just a year later Minority government office period.

Montenegro called for a vote in response to accusations of conflict of interest in the activities of the family consulting company. He denied any misconduct.

Despite the controversy, polls suggest that the Democratic alliance is set to win the most votes ahead of its main rival, the Center-Left Socialist Party.

However, the Montenegro party is predicted to be again short of the 116 seats needed for a majority in the parliament.

Polls show that far-right Chega parties oppose immigration, abortion and LGBTQ rights could be third and give the role of kingmakers. However, Montenegro has ruled out his job with Chega, who won 50 seats in last year’s election.

The economy, immigration and the Portuguese housing crisis have been a major issue in the campaign’s trajectory, with Montenegro directly appealing to voters to give him a strong obligation to end political instability.

“We have to do our part at home, and we have to be part of the solution overseas, Europe and the world. To do that, we need a strong government,” he rallyed in Lisbon on Friday.

Shortly after Sunday’s vote, he told reporters he was confident the country could achieve stable governance.

“There’s a search for a stable solution, but it depends now [people’s] The choices,” he said.
