These are important events on the 1,152nd day of the Russian Ukrainian War.

This is where things stand on Monday, April 21st:

Fineting

At least three explosions have been heard in the Russian-controlled Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine, citing local “surgical services.” Ukrainian Voldymir Zelensky, who reported about 3,000 violations of the Ukrainian ceasefire pledge, added that Kiev’s troops had been directed to reflect the actions of the Russian army. The Russian Ministry of Defense said Ukrainian forces had broken Easter ceasefires, which had been declared more than 1,000 times by the Kremlin, claiming that Ukrainian forces had shot Russia’s position 444 times. The ministry also said that the Kremlin forces had encountered more than 900 Ukrainian drone attacks during this period. The ministry also said that Moscow controlled the village of Nobomihairivka in the Donetsk region of Ukraine before the Easter ceasefire. Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on the claim.

Oil and gas

Ukraine may need to import up to 6.3 billion cubic meters of gas in the winter of 2025-26, due to low-level reserves due to war-related damage to several facilities, said Sergiy Makogon, former head of Kyiv gas transport operator.

Ceasefire

Zelensky said Russian troops attempted to “advance and inflict losses” on Kiev’s troops overnight despite Russian President Putin declaring an Easter ceasefire. “The situation in Russia is that either Putin has no complete control of his army or that they are not going to make a real move to end the war,” Zelensky said. The US State Department said it welcomes the extension of the Easter ceasefire. However, the Kremlin said there was no previous extension order. Zelenskyy proposed drone halts, cruise missiles and rocket attacks on civilian targets for at least 30 days, after Russia revealed there was no order to extend the ceasefire.
