Police say Brand is facing two sexual assaults, one of rape, one of indecent assaults, one of oral rape.
British comedian Russell Brand has been charged with several counts of sexual assault in the UK.
The brand, once one of the UK’s most famous entertainers and broadcasters, is facing two sexual assaults, one count of rape, one count of obscene assaults, one count of oral rape, according to a statement from London’s metropolitan police released Friday.
The charges stem from complaints by four women about alleged crimes that occurred between 1999 and 2005.
Police said the brand’s investigation was “still open” and encouraged anyone affected or anyone with information about the incident.
The charge comes more than a year after British Media Outlet Channel 4 and the Sunday Times revealed allegations of assault by four women against the brand.
The 50-year-old comedian denied cheating and had many sexual relationships, but said they were “always agreed.”
Speaking to conservative American political commentator Tucker Carlson in January 2024, Brand described the accusations against him as “very, very painful.”
“I know I’m in such a vulnerable position by being very, very messy. That’s not the type of act I support, and that’s certainly not the way I live now,” he said.
The brand, known for his risky stand-up routines, has held numerous shows on radio and television, charted the battles of drugs and alcohol, appeared in several Hollywood films, and married pop star Katy Perry from 2010 to 2012.
In recent years, brands have barely existed in mainstream media, but they have built large online followers with videos that mix wellness with theory of intrigue. He recently said he had moved to the US.
Police said Brand is scheduled to appear in London’s court on May 2nd.
