The announcement of the new conference space is a great excuse to experience an unexplored, urban-centric hotel. So, when an invitation from the luxurious Cardiff facility housed in a former 19th century magnificent post office building passed through my letterbox, I headed to the Welsh capital for a prestigious weekend at the Park Gate Hotel.
The 170-room Park Gate Hotel is part of the Celtic Collection. This is the hospitality group behind 10 Welsh properties, including ICC Wales’ neighbours, Celtic Manor Resort.
Located next to Principal Stadium, a national rugby and football arena in Wales, it occupies a heritage building that first opened in 1897 as a post office to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee year.
It was transformed into a Park Gate Hotel and reopened in 2021. It features a rooftop Elemis Spa (where you can spy on the stadium from the thermal suite’s hydrotherapy pool), two AA rosette-earned restaurants, 360x ballroom and pillar-free meeting space, and a postmaster suite.
You will be passing through the door from the Postmaster Suite and will be a newly opened 40-capacity mailroom. Perfect for small team meetings (16 boardroom styles), presentations and additional support spaces for large events next door.
The Mail Room can also promote hybrid meetings with features such as a fully integrated Microsoft team camera setup and a 98-inch touchscreen with table microphones.
Park Gate’s bedrooms are smart and feature design details such as headboards carried from the hotel’s impressive blue vaulted lobby ceiling. The downstairs CWRT lounge and outdoor CWRT terrace are perfect for afternoon tea. But honestly, the real experience to taste is dinner in the selection room of a Michelin guided list (the food is spectacular).
After a good night and a relaxing breakfast, I revived the Parkgate Hotel, impressed by this historic gem at the hotel and became a little richer after supporting the Grand National Horse, which won the day before. The former post office has already pushed that mark on the scene of a Welsh business event. Adding an email room simply adds its delivery capabilities.
