Latest Fatal Shooting On the university campus In the US, it unfolded at Florida State University on Thursday, where two people were killed and at least six others injured.
Frightened students, faculty and parents there for the tour took the cover and waited in their college classrooms, offices and dorms in Tallahassee after it was issued Active Shooter Alerts. Some were crammed into cargo elevators after hearing gunshots outside the Student Union.
The gun used in the shooting belongs to the mother of the 20-year-old suspect and has worked at the sheriff’s office for 18 years, authorities said. They described the gun as her previous service weapon.
Authorities say the gunman, believed to be a university student, was shot dead, injured and taken into custody by an officer. The two who died were not students.
The main library in Florida was the site. Another shooting in 2014when a 31-year-old gunman injured three people before being shot and killed by police.
Experts say massive shootings on university campuses, although rare, are frequently found in the minds of today’s students as they grew up taking part in active elementary and high school shooter drills.
“We’re a great fan of our team,” said Michael Lawler, an associate professor of criminal justice at New Haven University, Connecticut.

The 67-year-old former business professor whose application to teach at UNLV was denied, fired fire in a building that houses the university’s business school, killing three professors and seriously injured a fourth. The gunman was killed in a shootout with police outside the building.
Michigan State University: February 2023, 3 people
A 43-year-old gunman fired fire inside the Academic Building and the Student Union, killing three students and injuring five others. He later committed suicide a few miles from the East Lansing campus, facing police.
University of Virginia: November 2022, 3 people
Students and former members of the school’s soccer team fatally shot three current players on a charter bus that returned from a field trip, causing panic and a 12-hour lockdown on campus until the suspect was captured. Two other students were also injured on campus. The shooter pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and other charges and awaited his sentence.
Northern Arizona University:October 2015, one death
Just a few weeks after his freshman year, a student walked to Flagstaff campus and fired fire. Since the university was founded in 1899, one student has been killed and three others have been injured in the first fatal shooting. The shooter later pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges, worsening the assault and was sentenced to six years in prison.
Umpqua Community College: October 2015, 9 people
A 26-year-old man fired at his writing class, killing his instructor and eight other people at a rural school in Roseburg, Oregon. Nine more people were injured. The archer then committed suicide.
University of California, Santa Barbara: May 2014, 6 people
The 22-year-old college student was fatally stabbed near a school in Isla Vista, California, and shot six students, and injured several others before killing him.
Santa Monica College: June 2013, 6 people
The fatal act of domestic violence at home became public when the 23-year-old man left after killing his father and brother. He then entered campus and killed four more people before being fatally injured by police at the school’s library, as he was previously registered as a student.
Oikos University: April 2012, 7 people
The former nursing student fatally shot seven people at a small private university in East Oakland, California. He was given seven consecutive life sentences and died in prison in 2019.
Northern Illinois University:Five deaths in February 2008
A 27-year-old former student shot and killed five people and injured more than 20 people at a school in DeKalb, Illinois.
Virginia Tech: April 2007, 32 people
In the most deadly shooting at a US university, a 23-year-old student killed 32 people on the Blacksburg, Virginia campus. More than 20 other people were injured. The gunman then committed suicide.
University of Iowa: November 1991, 5 people
The former graduate student fatally shot his doctoral dissertation not being nominated for an Academic Award after killing five people and wounding one other in a shooting on the Iowa City campus.
University of Texas: August 1966, 13 people
A marine-trained sniper fired from one of the nation’s first mass shootings on top of a 27-storey clock tower in the heart of the university’s flagship Austin campus. He killed 13 people and injured more than 30 people. Authorities shot him dead.
