Mohsen Langarnesin was found guilty of supporting Operation Mossad for two years, including the murder of Colonel IRGC.

Iran has executed “senior spies” on charges of working with Israeli Mossad Intelligence Reporting Agency, the judiciary said.

Mohsen Langarnesin, who was hanged Wednesday morning, provided Mossad with extensive “logistics, technical and operational support” for two years starting in 2020, the judiciary said through official news agency Mizan.

One of the key accusations against Langarnesin was his involvement in the murder of a colonel of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) in May 2022. Israel informed the United States that it was responsible for the murder, according to the New York Times.

Mizan reported that Langarnesin purchased a motorcycle to track Kodai’s movements, relayed information to Mossad, and was present during the murder. He was also accused of supporting an attack on Isfahan’s industrial site, which belongs to Iran’s Defence Forces and the military’s logistics ministry.

Iran cited “a wide range of intelligence and technical evidence” linking Langarnesin to these operations, saying it had “completely confessed” to his involvement.

However, Mahmoud Amily Mogadam, head of Norway-based Iranian Human Rights (IHR) Monitor, said Langarnesin was sentenced after an unfair trial and that torture had earned him a confession.

“Iranian authorities’ execution machines are accelerating every day, killing more people,” he told AFP news agency, describing the execution as “extrajudicial killing.”

The US-based Abdramhan Bormand Centre campaigned for his case, saying that Langarnesin was convicted in July 2023 after being arrested in a revolutionary court where Judge Aborgassem Sarabati, who was authorized by the US and the EU and was renowned for serving the death sentence, was primarily sided.

“He denied all charges and said his confession was extracted under torture,” the group said.

Nazanin Boniadi, an Iranian-born British actor and activist, wrote about X:

Previous execution

Encountered in a decades-long shadow war with Iran, Iran has enforced many individuals over its connection with Mossad, particularly those accused of sabotage and assassination efforts aimed at undermining its nuclear program.

In December 2023, three men and women were executed on suspicion of linking with the Mossad.

Langarnesin’s execution is amid new US-Iran nuclear talks, with Foreign Minister Abbas Aragut accusing Israel of trying to derail it. According to Tehran, the fourth round of talks between Washington and Tehran via Oman is scheduled for Saturday in Rome.

Araghchi described the final round of an indirect talk held at Muscat on April 26th as “very serious,” but he remained “very careful” about their potential success.
