In Israel’s “war of hunger,” Gaza’s ceasefire story is meaningless: Hamas | Israeli-Palestinian conflict news

According to a senior official from the Palestinian group, Hamas is engaged in ceasefire negotiations with Israel, and it cannot be said that “as long as the hunger war and extinction war continue.”

Basem Naim told AFP news agency on Tuesday that the international community must put pressure on Israeli government Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end Gaza’s “cry of hunger, thirst and murder.”

“As long as the hunger and extinction wars continue in the Gaza Strip, there is no point in engaging in consultations or considering new ceasefire proposals,” he said.

Naim’s remarks came the day after Netanyahu said the enclave’s population would be “moved” in the upcoming expanded military operation by Israeli forces, reportedly accompanied by “conquest of the Gaza Strip and retention of territory.”

Since Israel launched its war with the Palestinian enclave in October 2023, almost all of Gaza’s 2.3 million inhabitants have been exiled multiple times.

Total blockage

The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip has grown increasingly since the imposed full lockdown by Israel on March 2, causing widespread food shortages as Israel launches fatal attacks across the enclave.

Khoudary, behind Al Jazeera, reporting from Deir Elbara in central Gaza, said that Palestinians “have struggled to find food to feed their children,” if they said they were “forced to eat expired or rotten food,” but others said they couldn’t find nutrition in any form.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Association (PRCS) said this week that Gaza food supplies are now “completely gone” in both local markets and humanitarian distribution centres.

“The population is once again at extreme risk of hunger,” PRCS said in an updated status update. “We are unable to meet the minimum daily needs of more than one million displaced people.”

According to PRCS, only “limited amounts of legumes” are currently being distributed to community kitchens, as all previously stocked aid has been exhausted.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) reflected these concerns and called for warnings against the immediate entry of humanitarian aid and its politicization.

“The level of needs among civilians in Gaza is currently overwhelming,” said ICRC spokesman Christian Cardon.

“Under international humanitarian law, Israel is obligated to use all means to ensure that the basic needs of civilians under its control are met,” he added.

“Israel doesn’t stop war, killing, bombing, destruction, siege and hunger every day, so how can they talk about the expansion of military operations,” Awad, 39, who lives in a tent in the southern Gaza city of Gaza Giannis, told Al Jazeera on Monday.

“I call on the world to witness the hunger that grows and spreads every day,” he said.

Gaza city resident Aya al-Skafee told Al Jazeera on Monday that her baby died from malnutrition and medical shortages last week.

“She was four months old and weighed 2.8 kg. [6.2lb]. Due to severe malnutrition, she suffered from blood acidity, liver, kidney failure, and many other complications. Her hair and nails also fell due to malnutrition. ”

Israel’s plan

According to the leaked plan, the Israeli government has reportedly wanted to strictly limit the way food is distributed in Gaza, suggesting that US companies take over distribution from the United Nations and other humanitarian agencies.

Under the plan, Palestinian families will be allowed to take one groceries a week at designated hubs in southern Gaza, and Israel will allow 60 trucks to enter the Gaza Strip every day.

The UN aid group rejected the plan and said it was a pressure tactic to further strengthen control of life-saving supplies.
