Opposition members disrupt the Indian Parliament meeting as they questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government about their response to alleged abuse of 104 citizens while being deported from the US.

The lawsuit in the House and upper minutes of the Assembly was postponed Thursday as lawmakers chanted the slogan and called on the Modi government to address the deportation process known as “degradation.”

In a notice to the Secretary General of the House Speaker of the House of Representatives, Opposition Congressman Gaurav Gogoi described the deportation process as “deteriorating,” adding that he would raise “serious concerns about their human dignity and rights.” .

The deportation came a week before President Donald Trump was expected to meet Modi in Washington, DC. The migration is expected to come during Trump talks with Modi.

On Wednesday, a US military plane carrying undocumented immigrants landed in the Sikh sacred city of Amritsar in Punjab, part of Trump’s U.S. deportation agenda.

“USBP (US Border Patrol) and partners have returned illegal foreigners to India and used military transport to mark the farthest deported flight,” USBP chief Michael Banks said in a post on X on Wednesday. Ta.

“If you cross illegally, you’ll be removed,” he said in the post. It had a video showing some men being led by an army of handcuffs and led with legs in chains.

All immigrants who banned children were handcuffed during flight, reported the time of Indian and Indian Express newspapers.

The Indian press news agency cited one of the deporters, Jaspal Singh, and said that Deportees’ handcuffs and chains of legs were only removed after landing in Amritsar.

Singh, 36, said initially he thought they were being taken to another camp in the US.

“Then the police said we were being taken to India,” he was quoted as saying.

After Denner arrived in India, they received more scrutiny at Amritsar Airport before police escorted them with a small group of police vehicles.

Some deportees flew on regular flights to Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Thursday.

Indian Foreign Minister responds

In response, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said New Delhi is engaged to the US to ensure that undocumented Indian immigrants are not abused while they are deported.

Jaishankar told Congress that the subsequent deportation process for US authorities is not new and can use restraints on immigrants being returned to their home countries.

He added, “It is the duty of every state to regain its citizens if it is found to be illegally living abroad.”

Speaker of the council, Om Birla, also tried to calm opposition lawmakers, saying, “There are foreign countries with their own rules and regulations.”

Outside of the assembly, opposition lawmakers, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, continued their protest as they demanded a response from Modi’s government. Some of them were handcuffing and carrying placards with the words “humans, not prisoners.”

Although Indian immigrants have been deported by the previous US administration, it was the first time Washington has done so using military aircraft.

India has been working with the US and is ready to accept deported Indians after verification.

New Delhi says it is opposed to undocumented immigration, as it is primarily linked to several forms of organized crime.

A spokesman for the US Embassy in Delhi said the implementation of immigration laws is “very important” for US safety and public safety.

“It is a US policy to faithfully implement immigration laws against all unacceptable removable aliens,” the spokesperson added.

As of 2022, India ranked third after Mexico and El Salvador, according to a report by the Pew Research Center.
