Rubialies is found guilty of sexually assaulting soccer player Jenni Hermoso by forcing her to kiss her and ordering her to pay a fine.

A Spanish court found former footballer Luis Rubiales, who committed sexual assault after the 2023 Women’s World Cup final without her consent after the 2023 Women’s World Cup final .

Rubiales, who was acquitted from coercion, was fined 10,000 euros ($10,455) by Audienciana Cional Court on Thursday. He was ordered not to go within a 200m (660ft) radius of Hermoso and was banned from communicating with her for a year.

The incident threw poles into Spain’s victory at the 2023 Women’s World Cup and began debating the sexism faced by female athletes. Luviales, 47, resigned in September 2023 amid widespread anger.

Hermoso said the kiss was not an agreement and told the court that it was “disregarded” by the law, but Rubiales argued. He told the court Tuesday that he was “absolutely certain” that the kiss had agreed.

Prosecutors claimed that Luviarez and several prominent Spanish football officials forced Hermoso to force her to kiss and tried to downplay the case for a year, forcing her to He was seeking a prison in Luviales, which consists of 18 months.

The court refused to sentence Rubiales to prison time and acquittled him and the three co-defendants of coercion.

Judge Jose Manuel Fernandez Puet said he believed Hermono’s testimony that he did not agree to the kiss. He determined that sexual assault was mildly strong, although “always condemnable” because there was no violence or threat.

“The judge must choose a financial penalty, as he understands that, given the magnitude of the attack, it is a sporadic act of the accused and does not require special rehabilitation for the crime. There is. It’s more serious than custody,” the verdict said.

Hermoso, 34, the best ever scorer for the Spanish women’s team, told the court earlier this month that the subsequent unsolicited kisses and fuss “dyed one of the happiest days of my life.” He spoke. Her teammates testified that the incident left her exhausted, cried and overwhelmed her.

“As a woman, I felt disrespected,” Hermoso said at the trial.

“To me, it’s very important to say I didn’t ask for the act, let alone expect it.”
