Police said the perpetrator who killed the 70-year-old man was an Israeli citizen in the nearby town of Druze, Arab.

A 70-year-old man was killed and three others were injured in a stinging attack in the city of Haifa in northern Israel, officials said.

The attack took place at a bus stop on Monday, Israeli police added that the suspected assailant was killed.

“Emergency personnel and EMT have declared the death of a man before age 70, providing treatment and evacuating four injured individuals,” said Israel’s Magen David Adom Emergency Service.

A man, about 30 years old and a 15-year-old boy, said the man and woman were seriously injured.

Previously, Eli Bin, head of the emergency rescue team Mazen David Adom, told Israeli media that four people were injured in the stab attack, one of whom was later injured.

The security guards shot and killed the assailant, a police spokesperson said.

Police said the assailant was an Israeli citizen from a nearby Arab Druze town who returned from overseas in May, and added that the attack was still under investigation.

The AFP news agency said journalists who arrived after the injured were evacuated had seen the attacker’s body on the ground under the blanket.

Images posted on social media showed several paramedics caring for the injured when they saw them lying on the ground as they were parked nearby.

Israeli police labels as “terrorists” attack people related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The attack was stagnant as negotiations between Israel and Palestinian group Hamas stopped the Gaza ceasefire after the first phase of the deal ended over the weekend.

On Sunday, Israel blocked humanitarian entry into Gaza after disagreements about Hamas extending the ceasefire.
