The exclusive collection has published new insights papers to navigate the impact of declining attention at business events and meetings.

This paper, Networking4.0, is based on quantitative insights from clients and is co-authored by Peter Mandeno PhD, an expert in the science of human connection.

The attention span continues to decline from 12 seconds in 2000 to just 8.25 seconds today, with 70% of employees struggling to concentrate for 20 minutes, so the event format needs to evolve to maintain engagement and effectiveness.

The study finds that the reasons why employees struggle to concentrate are due to multitasking and constant digital disruption.

This paper provides actionable insights to address the challenges of event planners and organizations reducing attention while maintaining a commercial impact of business events.

Stephanie Hall, Group Director of Exclusive Collection Sales and Marketing, said:

She added: “In this landscape, technology plays a dual role. It enhances access and engagement, but focuses especially among the digital native generation. It’s more difficult than ever to attract and maintain attention while recognizing the cost of distractions, and therefore we’ve created Network 4.0.”

The report found that 37.3% of event expert collaborations are the most important thing in the business, with networking and problem solving being closely followed (28.8). The most important thing was creativity (5.1%).

Additionally, 46.5% of respondents stated that interactive workships help maintain optimal focus, followed by short presentations (44.1%).

Insight Paper has discovered that the way people learn is going through important transformations, and traditional forms give way to more interactive experiences, while breakout sessions and workshops promote deeper learning and collaboration.

As learning became more and more experiential, attention was brought to mind as an important metric for assessing the effectiveness of events.
