On Monday, July 14th, 2025, the first cohort of apprentices will graduate at a ceremony held at Excel London, marking key milestones in the new industry-led training initiative.

The programme is developed through interdisciplinary collaborations between Events & Exhibition Partnerships, Stambridge Group, Excel London, OPS Nest, TSP Learn, and Event Apprentices, reconstructs how talent is trained in the event and security industry.

This initiative was developed specifically to address the clear need for better integration between event operations and security services, particularly with the upcoming Protect Dutute (Martyn’s Law).

The apprentice model brings together key components such as venue experience, licensing, emergency emergency training, and accessibility training, along with level 2 and level 3 security apprentices.

“It’s not just about giving people jobs, it’s about creating a career in event security,” said Lukiwanuka, who leads the initiative. “We want venues and businesses to back this up, not just because that’s the right thing to do, but because we raise bars across the industry.”

Key supporters of the initiative include Liz Turner (EEP Security Team), Henry Havis (Excel London) and Kevin Bird (Stanbridge Group).

Turner said: “Apprenticeships allow our people to grow and carve the true future of our industry,” Havis called it a “great launchpad” for the next generation of experts.

“Major venues must set an example and ensure that contractors drive long-term change throughout the live event industry. Event security apprentices are essential to being skilled and prepared for the future by creating a real career path,” said Richard Waddington, chairman of the event apprentice.

The July 14th event will feature representatives from the entire security and event sector, including Met Police, SIA and more.

Organizers call industry media, amplifying initiatives, and encourage support from major venues and security providers, including access, all areas, event production news, and event news.
