An Iranian envoy to the United Nations Amir Saeed Irabani warned the US that “attacks will have serious consequences.”

An Iranian representative at the United Nations condemned the “reckless and inflammatory statement” that President Donald Trump is threatening to use force, warning that “attacks will have serious consequences.”

In a letter to the UN Security Council on Tuesday, Iran’s UN ambassador Amir Sayed Irabani mentioned what Trump made in a media interview. The US leader proposed to stop Iran from halting its nuclear weapons. paper”.

“I would rather do a deal that I don’t intend to hurt them,” Trump told Fox News on Monday, adding, “I would like to do business with them without bombing them.”

Trump’s latest threat comes amidst new tensions after reviving his “maximum pressure” policy on Iran over concerns the country is trying to develop nuclear weapons.

In a letter to the UN Security Council, Irabani protested what he described as Trump’s “deeply surprising and irresponsible remarks.”

“These reckless and inflammatory statements violate a serious violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, particularly Article 2(4), which prohibits the use of force against sovereign states. “Irabani said in a letter released by Iran’s official IRNA news agency.

He further warns that any offensive action will have serious consequences and the United States will take full responsibility.

Tehran has argued that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only and denied its intention to develop nuclear weapons.

During Trump’s first term, which ended in 2021, Trump withdrew from a groundbreaking deal that imposed curbs on Iran’s nuclear program in return for sanctions relief.

Tehran continued to adhere to the transaction known as the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan until a year after Washington, D.C., but began to rewind that commitment.

It also accelerates uranium enrichment to up to 60% purity, close to about 90% weapons grade levels, the UN Nuclear Observation Director said in December.

Efforts to revive the 2015 deal during the Biden administration have wavered.

Iran’s top leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Friday there should not be any negotiations with the US after Trump proposed to strike a “verified nuclear peace agreement” with Iran.

“Negotiating with the US will not resolve the issue,” Khamenei said, citing his previous “experience.”
