The incident marks the first death as Israeli forces retreated from most of the border area on Tuesday.

At least one person was killed in an Israeli drone attack on vehicles in southern Lebanon, a day after Israeli forces retreated from most of the border area.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported on Wednesday that “an enemy drone hit the vehicle… in the town of Aita al-Shaaaa.”

Sanad, Al Jazeera’s fact-checking agency identified the victim as Yusuf Mohamed Sole, the son of the town’s mayor, and targeted him while he was sitting in the car in front of his home.

The NNA previously reported that one person was injured in the Wazani area in another attack after Israeli forces opened restaurants and cafes “residents are testing” in the area.

The NNA also reported that Israeli forces were shot towards a house near the town of Shebaa.

The ceasefire agreement agreed in November 2024 has halted more than a year of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah. This includes two months of all-out war, in which Israel’s merciless bombing killed more than 4,000 people.

Under this contract, Lebanese forces were to deploy together with the UN peacekeeping forces as Israeli forces retreated for 60 days and later retreated until February 18th.

Hezbollah was to pull back north of the Ritani River, about 30 km (20 miles) from the border and dismantle the remaining military infrastructure south.

Israel announced that it would temporarily maintain its troops at “five strategic points” near the border just before the deadline.

The Army said they were on the top of a hill overlooking the border where the troops remain to “confirm there is no immediate threat” – Lebanon refuses.

On Wednesday, Lebanon President Joseph Own visited the country that Israel needs to end its presence within the country to complete the ceasefire agreement, adding that Lebanon would consider Israeli forces on the soil as “occupying.” .

The UN called an incomplete pull-out a violation of the Security Council resolution.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned in November that Israel would maintain “full freedom of military action” in the event of an armistice violation.

Israel’s refusal to withdraw all of its troops brings more uncertainty than a fragile ceasefire contract.

Israel has repeatedly violated ceasefires by launching sporadic attacks. The location and event data project (Ecled) of the armed conflict that recorded 330 air raids and shells carried out by Israel between November 27th and January 10th, as well as 260 property destruction, were recorded.
