Washington (AP) – President Donald Trump He is moving to block almost all foreign students from entering the country to attend Harvard University, Latest attempts Suffocate Ivy League schools from an international pipeline that accounts for a quarter of student organizations.

In an executive order signed Wednesday, Trump declared that Harvard University would risk national security so that it could continue foreign students on its Cambridge, Massachusetts campus.

“I have determined that the entry of the above foreign class is detrimental to the interests of the United States, because, in my opinion, Harvard’s actions made it an inappropriate destination for foreign students and researchers,” Trump ordered.

It is further escalation in the White House’s battle with the oldest and most wealthy universities in the country. A federal court in Boston blocked the Department of Homeland Security from banning international students at Harvard last week. Trump’s orders evoke another legal authority.

This is due to Harvard’s refusal to submit to a series of federal requests. It escalated recently after the Department of Homeland Security said Harvard University refused to provide records related to misconduct by international students.

Harvard says it is complying with the request, but the government said it is inadequate to the school’s response.
